On Leura campus, students ‘check in’ and run the school as a simulated hotel, performing operational food and beverage management, restaurant service, housekeeping and front office duties. Every students gain their experience though their student life, and they try their own skills to the actual industry during paid industry placement.

Students can work 40 hours in every 2 weeks with student visa. Students have more opportunity to learn the industry in Australia.

History

1991
  • Blue Mountains International Hotel Management School (BMIHMS) was founded by Fritz Grubler, a Swiss hotelier. First school in Australia to operate the internationally recognised Swiss hotel management program. Soon develops an educational model in which students live and study in a simulated hotel environment.
1994
  • BMIHMS granted an advanced diploma status by VETAB.
1999
  • Advanced Diploma program extended to a 3-year Bachelor of Arts in International Hospitality and Tourism Management awarded by Bournemouth University, UK.
2001
  • Sign a 5-year agreement with University of New England (UNE) conferring a Bachelor of Commerce (Hospitality and Tourism Management) degree as part of School’s expanding curriculum.
2002
  • Launches post-graduate programs as well as a tourism management strand within the undergraduate degree.
2004
  • Bilateral partnership with Suzhou Tourism Schools, China, provides Diploma course on the Suzhou campus.
2005
  • First private education provider in Australia to receive international recognition as a quality educator by the World Tourism Organisation (WTO).
  • Registered as a NSW Higher Education institution.
  • Acquires the Australian International Hotel School (AIHS) in Canberra.
  • Department of Education, Employment, and Workplace Relations (DEEWR) grants accreditation to the Bachelor of Business (Hotel Management) program
2006
  • School undergoes major refurbishment and extension of campus facilities, and launches new strategic partnership with University of Queensland’s School of Tourism (the only other World Tourism Organisation accredited educator in Australia).
2008
  • Joins Laureate International Universities, becoming part of a global education network.
2009
  • Blue Mountains International Hotel Management School receives the prestigious Gold Award for Tourism Education and Training at the New South Wales Tourism Awards.
2010
  • Wins Education and Training Award at the Qantas Australian Tourism Awards, recognising Blue Mountains as the leader of hotel management education in Australia.
  • Wins Best Communications, and Finalist in the Best Educational Innovation category at Worldwide Hospitality Awards in Paris.
  • Awarded Silver for Tourism Education and Training at the New South Wales Tourism Awards 2010.
2011
  • Celebrates 20th anniversary and opens specialist business campus in downtown Sydney.
  • Designs a Master of International Hotel Management program to start in 2012.
  • Awarded Silver for Tourism Education and Training at the New South Wales Tourism Awards 2011.
2012
  • The first Master of International Hotel Management students start at the Blue Mountains Sydney campus.
  • Blue Mountains Hotel School courses are introduced to partner institutions around the world.

TEQSA
Registered by the Tertiary Education Quality and Standards Agency all courses offered are accredited by (TEQSA).

Meets the Education Services for Overseas Students (ESOS) requirements ensuring international students are cared for, minimum standards are met and that the institution functions on sound financial foundations.
All international education providers in Australia must comply with the ESOS Act and National Code. Blue Mountains International Hotel Management School adheres to the code and as such, is in full compliance with the code’s requirements.

World Tourism Organization
The School is a certified institution of the WTO’s Department of Education and Knowledge Management, having gained certification under the Tourism Education Quality program. We are one of the two institutions in Australia currently certified the other being the University of Queensland.

Institute of Hospitality
Blue Mountains also attained accreditation for its programs from the Institute of Hospitality, the only internationally recognized professional management association for managers in hospitality, leisure and tourism.

THE-ICE

Academic Programs

Bachelor of Business (2.5 years)
  • Bachelor of Business
The program with its broad emphasis on business management prepares graduates for supervisory and management trainee positions in the worldwide hotel and resort industry, and associated spa and leisure sectors; one of the fastest growing employment categories in the world.
  • International Event Management
Event Management spans several large sectors including MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Exhibitions), community and cultural celebrations, sporting and arts/entertainment festivals, and destination tourism branding. Graduates in International Event Management gain an understanding of business management as well as specialist knowledge of corporate hospitality, sponsorships and marketing.
Postgraduate Certificate (6 months)
The Postgraduate Certificate is open those students who may not have a formal qualification but have held a supervisory role in any industry for at least five years. They can apply for the Postgraduate Certificate in International Hotel Management which then leads into the full Masters program.

Master of international Hotel Management (1 year and 3 month or 2 years)
The program ensures that Master students can take their current Bachelor degree and build on their business knowledge while learning the core hospitality skills to ensure a successful career in hotel management. The Master degree can also be undertaken by those students who already hold a Bachelor degree in hospitality management. As credit for some units may be granted, students may be able to complete the Master degree in 1 year and 3 months.
If you would like to apply Post-Study Work Visa, you can take 2years program instead 1 year and 3 month program even you have Hotel management Bachelor degree.
Visa
International students require a student visa to study in Australia. You will need a student visa with condition 8105, which allows you to work up to 20 hours per week while studying and full time during your Industry Placement. Requirements
For all programs, students from countries where English is not the first language must demonstrate a minimum level of English language competency of IELTS 6.5 (General) or 6.0 (Academic) or equivalent. A valid International English Language Testing System (IELTS) certificate of not more than two years old must be provided. For Post Graduate Certificate and Master Program, applicants must provide Evidence of a completed bachelor degree. All international qualifications must be recognized by the National Office of Overseas Skills Recognition (NOOSR) OR at least a graduate certificate qualification plus five years work experience at a supervisory level. And, original certified copies of all qualifications (including the original language and translated document if applicable).

Leura Campus
Leura is situated in the heritage listed Blue Mountains National Park, about an hour’s drive west of Sydney. BMIHMS, spread out over 2 hectares of landscaped grounds, has capacity for around 250 students. Having a campus located in one of Australia’s top natural tourist attractions, the Blue Mountains National Park, means students are not only immersed in a world of hospitality opportunity, but have numerous outdoor lifestyle options on their doorstep. The area abounds with boutique shopping, cafes and restaurants.

Sydney Campus
Sydney, often voted the most livable city in the world, makes the perfect location to complement your hospitality or event management degree. Our new non-residential campus, located right in the heart of the city’s CBD, functions as an executive business centre where 3rd year and postgraduate students complete their studies in purpose built, state of the art lecture rooms and teaching facilities, with wireless Internet and a modern well-equipped library on site. We assist in finding off-campus accommodation nearby. Many of Sydney’s tourist and sporting attractions, as well as shopping and entertainment precincts are literally on the campus doorstep.
